West Tennessee Healthcare

A public, not-for-profit health system running 90 hospitals and medical centres across West Tennessee, anchored by a 642-bed tertiary hospital in Jackson, Tennessee.

West Tennessee Healthcare is a public, not-for-profit health system serving communities across a 9,000-square-mile area of West Tennessee. Operating for more than 70 years, the system comprises 90 hospitals and medical centres, employs over 7,000 people alongside physicians, nurses and other caregivers, and provides care to a population of more than half a million. It is entirely self-supporting, drawing no local tax revenues, and reinvests all surpluses into patient care, technology and facilities. At its centre is Jackson-Madison County General Hospital, a 642-bed tertiary care centre in Jackson, Tennessee and the only such facility between Memphis and Nashville, serving a 19-county area of rural West Tennessee. Around it sit six Centres of Excellence spanning cardiovascular care (the West Tennessee Heart and Vascular Center, which treats more heart attacks than any other hospital in Tennessee), oncology at Kirkland Cancer Center, women's health and maternity at the West Tennessee Women's Center, which delivers over 4,000 babies a year, neuroscience and spine, and emergency medicine. The system also operates the region's only Joint Commission certified stroke centre and its only Level 3 neonatal intensive care unit. Clinical work spans tertiary and inpatient hospital care, cardiovascular medicine, oncology, obstetrics and neonatology, neuroscience and spine, stroke care and emergency medicine. The stated mission is to make essential services available close to home for rural communities, supported by a long-standing workforce and a team-based approach to patient outcomes across a continuum of care. Further information on the organisation and its facilities is available at https://wth.org/.
