Special Health Resources
A Federally Qualified Health Center providing primary care, dental, behavioral health, substance-abuse treatment and HIV/AIDS services across Northeast Texas and Southwest Arkansas.
Special Health Resources is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) delivering primary care, dental care, behavioral health, substance-abuse treatment and HIV/AIDS services to families across Northeast Texas and Southwest Arkansas. The organisation operates community health centers in Tyler, Longview, Paris and Texarkana, alongside mobile health units that reach rural communities across its service area, which covers 23 counties in Northeast Texas and one county in Southwest Arkansas.
Clinical services span adult and pediatric primary care, women's health and family planning, immunisations, mental and behavioural healthcare, substance-abuse treatment, pain management, and HIV/AIDS screening and treatment. Practice across these sites combines fixed-site clinic work with mobile health delivery, a model that places practitioners in both urban and rural settings within the region.
The organisation has operated since the late 1980s, when it was founded as AIDS Inc. to provide social support for people living with HIV and their families. It has since expanded from social support into medical care, emergency assistance, case management and other supportive services.
Special Health Resources accepts Medicaid, Medicare and most private insurance, and runs a sliding-fee discount programme based on income and household size for self-paying patients. Its stated focus is community health for rural and underserved populations across its service area.
