Compass Working Capital is a nonprofit financial services organization delivering savings programs, financial coaching, training, and policy work to help low-income families build assets and narrow racial and gender wealth divides.
Compass Working Capital is a nonprofit financial services organization working to end asset poverty for low-income families and to narrow the racial and gender wealth divides. Its approach combines client-centered savings programs with financial coaching, with a particular focus on families led by Black and/or Latina women. The organization has partnered with more than 7,300 families since 2010.
Central to its work is the Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) Program, delivered in partnership with affordable housing providers. FSS is the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's program and the nation's largest asset-building program for families with low incomes. Alongside direct service, Compass Working Capital offers financial coaching to help families build assets and reach financial goals, and reports that participating families have built more than $35 million in savings and increased their earnings by over $50 million.
Beyond direct service delivery, the organization provides training and technical assistance to other practitioners and shapes policy solutions aimed at dismantling barriers to asset building. Its work spans financial coaching, savings and asset-building programs, workforce and earnings advancement, and policy advocacy.
Compass Working Capital is headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts, with an additional office in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and operates within the United States.
