Western Growers Assurance Trust

A member-driven nonprofit founded in 1957 providing health benefits to agricultural employers and workers through pooled purchasing power, supported by claims, enrollment and client-service systems.

Western Growers Assurance Trust is a member-driven nonprofit that provides health benefits to agricultural employers and their workers. Founded in 1957, it is the largest provider of health benefits for the agriculture industry. Its model allows employers to combine purchasing power through an Association Health Plan, enabling them to offer stronger benefits than they could obtain individually. The organisation serves owners, managers, field workers and seasonal employees across agriculture and the food supply and transportation sectors.

The Trust operates a set of systems and digital tools underpinning its service. These include claims-management systems for processing and managing participant claims, web-based client-service tools that support staff in resolving participant needs, and a Health Care Processing System, a secure digital tool supporting collaborative operations and cost management across the member network. Technical work spans health benefits administration, claims management, health care processing, and enrollment and quality assurance operations.

Work at the Trust is organised across client-service, claims, enrollment, sales, quality assurance and project-management functions. Staff are expected to collaborate across functional boundaries and share knowledge, working with third-party vendors, employers and providers as well as with the agricultural employers and workers the Trust serves. The organisation emphasises analysing operational challenges and continuously improving processes, combining a service-oriented culture with industry-specific knowledge.
