VITO

VITO is an independent applied research organisation that combines scientific research with close collaboration across industry, government and academia. Its work is directed at translating findings into technological innovations, AI solutions, policy advice and real-world applications, with particular attention to climate change, resource scarcity, environmental health and sustainable production. The organisation employs more than 1,300 people and recruits internationally.

Research is organised across more than 40 domains, spanning artificial intelligence and data science, environmental and climate science, healthy living environments, resilient ecosystems, a regenerative economy, and sustainable production and resource efficiency. Teams are multidisciplinary, bringing together scientists, engineers, data specialists and business professionals. Development work runs from the laboratory to pilot scale, and VITO operates specialised laboratories, pilot facilities, living labs and data infrastructure to move discoveries into practical use.

Alongside technological innovation, VITO produces artificial intelligence solutions through its data specialists and engineers and offers science-based policy advice to government and other stakeholders.
