Founded in 1957 by Jay Pritzker, when he purchased the Hyatt House motel at Los Angeles International Airport, the company is now headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, and operates more than 1,300 hotels and resorts in more than 70 countries. It is publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker H and reported revenue of approximately $6.67 billion in 2023. Hyatt's portfolio spans a range of distinct brands, including Park Hyatt and Andaz in the luxury and luxury lifestyle segments, Grand Hyatt in upper-upscale, the full-service Hyatt Regency, the lifestyle brand Hyatt Centric, and the select-service and extended-stay brands Hyatt Place and Hyatt House. The Hyatt House name traces back to the original motel purchased in 1957. Guests are served through World of Hyatt, a loyalty programme offering points redeemable for free nights, experiences, and other benefits. The company works across hospitality, hotels and resorts, travel and tourism, and loyalty and guest rewards, acting both as a hotel owner and operator and providing management services, franchising, and development expertise. Hyatt states its company purpose as "to care for people so they can be their best". From a single airport motel, it has grown into one of the world's largest hospitality companies, employing people across hotel operations, brand management, and corporate functions in more than 70 countries.
