GM Financial is the wholly owned captive finance subsidiary of General Motors. Founded in 1992 as AmeriCredit, with its first branch office in Fort Worth, Texas, the company now maintains its headquarters in Fort Worth and operates across North America, South America, Asia and Canada. AmeriCredit Corp. was acquired by General Motors Company on October 1, 2010, and the business subsequently expanded through the 2011 acquisition of FinanciaLinx to serve GM dealers and customers throughout Canada, followed by further acquisitions finalised in 2013 and additional market expansion completed in January 2015.
The company provides global auto finance solutions through three principal lines of business: retail financing programmes offered via long-standing relationships with auto dealers; lease programmes structured to meet individual customer needs; and commercial lending products that help dealers finance and grow their businesses.
GM Financial operates within the auto finance, automotive retail and commercial lending sectors, serving both General Motors dealers and their customers across its international markets.
