AltaGas Ltd.
North American energy infrastructure company spanning regulated utilities and midstream, moving natural gas and NGLs to markets and exporting propane to Asia.
AltaGas Ltd. is a North American energy infrastructure company that links energy producers to markets through two main businesses: regulated Utilities and Midstream. The company's operations span the movement and marketing of natural gas and natural gas liquids (NGL), propane and liquid petroleum gas (LPG) export, and regulated utility service - from well sites to customer doorsteps and on to markets in Asia.
Founded in 1994 in Calgary, Alberta, AltaGas began with 21 employees and two services contracts. It now employs nearly 3,000 people and serves approximately 1.6 million customers across four U.S. jurisdictions, with operations in five Canadian provinces and numerous U.S. states.
Its regulated utilities include Washington Gas, serving the U.S. mid-Atlantic and Washington D.C. area, and SEMCO in Michigan. On the midstream and export side, the company built the Ridley Island Propane Export Terminal in British Columbia - Canada's first propane export facility - establishing AltaGas as an early exporter of Canadian LPG to overseas markets.
AltaGas describes an entrepreneurial culture focused on strategic infrastructure investment, creating shareholder and social value, and unlocking new market growth. The company has evolved from a focused regional player into a leading North American energy infrastructure business.
